This was a homedepot HVAC salesman who tried to scare me into thinking that my 6 year old can wake up dead one day if I keep being "cheap" when I tried to ask him scientific questions, he kept saying furnace is rusty and rust means its dead etc etc. Which is why I want to keep this thing working for as long as it can but not at the risk of health issues. Compare that to my friends and family who have Trane and Lennox smart and efficient units, they pay MORE and they are amazed how little I am paying. To give you an idea, I live in a 3000 sq ft house, the HVAC is 4 tons, and the most electricity bill I paid in the middle of summer is $200 and the most gas bill I paid in the middle of winter is $180. My electricity and gas bills are really not that high (testimant to the old unit). Overall I am extremely pleased with the old unit, it is very powerful (cooling and heating both) and I am not very fan of these new efficient units. * If it needs to be addressed, can it be repaired * If this needs to be addressed or can be left alone (I have 3 different smoke and carbon monoxide detectors where the furnace is as well as a detector in every room and hallway) I have a 27 year old Amana A/C and furnace that to this date have been functioning perfectly fine with no issues (except occasional flame sensor cleaning or ignitor replacement).Ī contractor who was at my house commented on rust on the furnace which let me to do further inspection and I realized around the burners (not the burners themselves but around where the flame goes) there is rust.
